Godolphin Purchase Galileo Filly at Goffs

Media Release - Wednesday September 27
The opening session of the Goffs Orby Sale was topped by a stunning filly by Galileo that sold for €1,2 million to trainer John Gosden on behalf of Godolphin.

Gosden, accompanied by advisors David Loder and Anthony Stroud, outlasted Coolmore's MV Magnier to secure the bay filly (Lot 35) consigned by John O'Connor's Ballylinch Stud.

She is from Group II winning Dansili mare L'Amour De Ma Vie.

Another of today's stand out lots was Kilcarn Stud's daughter of Invincible Spirit out of the Group winning Galileo mare Prima Luce from the family of Halfway To Heaven. The regally bred filly,Lot 138, was purchased by Cheveley Park Stud for €580,000. Full results from today's sale are availablehere.

International interest was a common theme throughout with buyers from around the globe competing for some of the very best bred Irish yearlings, and at the conclusion of Day 1, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby commented:

"We've seen some spectacular trade for well-bred yearlings today and those which stood out attracted huge international interest with buyers from the US, Hong Kong, Europe, Australia, the Middle-East and China."

A total of 195 lots were sold during the Orby's opening day for a total aggregate of €21,140,000 at an average of €108,410 and with an 85% clearance rate, demonstrating a marginal increase on the corresponding session in 2016.
