One To Watch - Goulburn

Mark Smith - Friday March 11

An Extreme Choice colt out of a stakes-winning mare for just $5,000 – you better believe it - and Darby Racing strikes again.

The Mark Newnham-trained colt Super Extreme impressed at his career debut in a 1000m maiden at Goulburn on Friday.

Ridden by Tyler Schiller, the son of Extreme Choice thundered down the centre of the track to defeat the Smart Missile filly Smarter Than You by a widening three and a quarter lengths with the Nicconi filly Niccolina a further three lengths back in third.

Super Extreme a $5,000 Magic Millions National yearling

Bred by Bowness Stud, Super Extreme was consigned to the 2020 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale where Darby Racing/Will Johnson Bloodstock had the final say at $5,000.

He is the fifth winner from six to race out of the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet winner Super Lacuna.

The daughter of Grand Lodge is a half-sister to stakes-winner Hesitates (Commands) and to the dam of Group II  ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Scarlet Rain and the dual Group III winner Military Zone (Epaulette).

Super Extreme is the final foal of Super Lacuna, which died in 2019.

Darby Racing has an enviable record of sourcing ‘cheapies’ from sales.

Another $5,000 buy was Yankee Rose, the winner of the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes and runner-up in the Golden Slipper and third in the Cox Plate on the way to earning $2,043,700 then selling for $2million

Golden Slipper and Moir Stakes winner She Will Reign, a $20,000 purchase netted 3,201,900 in prizemoney before selling for $2.3million.
