One to Watch – Ipswich

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 9

Shalaa (IRE) is having a very good season with his two year-olds and while this colt wasn’t ready for a Magic Millions campaign last year, Toby and Trent Edmonds are certainly going to have a lot of fun with him.

Jamaican Rumba was sent out favourite for the 1100m juvenile maiden at Ipswich on Wednesday and led all the way to score an impressive two and a quarter length win under Robbie Fradd.

A $260,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Segenhoe Stud draft for Edmonds Racing/Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Jamaican Rumba was bred by WA based Amelia Park Racing and Breeding.

Jamaican Rumba as a yearling.

He is the second winner for Amelia’s Love, a winning half-sister by Blackfriars to Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen, the dam of stakes-winner Eawase.

Amelia Park Racing and Breeding sold the current yearling from Amelia’s Love, a filly by Nicconi, for $250,000 at Perth Magic Millions to Simon Miller Racing.

Jamaican Rumba is the seventh 2YO winner this season for Arrowfield Stud’s Shalaa with those winners including Group II ATC Reisling Stakes winner Seven Veils and stakes-winner Semillion.
