One to Watch – Wagga

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 8

Most of NSW has had their racing washed out, but they got a meeting in at Wagga today run on a good surface and astute trainer Matthew Dale produced the most impressive winner of the day, a lightly raced three year-old by Deep Field.

Third on debut at Wagga last month when he did plenty wrong and raced greenly, Deepmind was sent out a hot favourite for the 1215m maiden and showed the benefit of his previous experience when leading all the way to win as he pleased.

Deepmind opened up to win by more than five lengths and will be winning a lot better races than this.

Deep Field

An $80,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the Staghurst Pty Ltd draft for Lion Rock Bloodstock/Bevan Smith Bloodstock, Deepmind is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Knead the Dough, a metro winning O’Reilly mare from an international family.

Knead the Dough is a grand-daughter of English stakes-winner Criquette as is Miss Right Note (IRE), the dam of champion 2YO colt and champion sire Pierro.

Staghurst will offer the current yearling from Knead the Dough, a colt by Exosphere, as Lot 143 at Magic Millions March Yearling Sale.
