Expensive Zoustar Colt Makes Perfect Debut

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 5

A $1,150,000 Inglis Easter purchase, stunning Zoustar colt Millane made a winning debut on Saturday at Flemington when taking out the Listed VRC Children Foundation Stakes (1000m) to bring a timely update for his half-brother to be offered at Inglis Easter 2022.

Trained by Peter Moody for the Victorian Stallion Alliance partners, Millane had shown nice ability int rials and jumpouts and proved strong at the finish when surging clear to win by more than a length for Luke Nolen.

"He's made good progression,” said Luke Nolen.

“He's been tradesman like at home, but with a big fat jockey in me on his back his jump outs didn't look as scintillating as it felt like to me, but I was really happy with how he got into position with things and he showed real quality.

"He's a nice horse with a deep pedigree."

Millane provides the perfect result on debut.

Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds and consigned by Segenhoe, Millane was purchased by Moody Racing / Rosemont Victorian Alliance / Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) / David Redvers Bloodstock with Anthony Mithen on hand to greet the colt as he returned for scale.

"It's great that we've been able to pull the partners together that we have. We have outstanding success in Victoria and to have had success with Brereton before Christmas and to get Hafey into the Blue Diamond, to now get a stakes race with two weeks to the Golden Slipper, I dare not say that!,” said Mithen.

"You've got to live the dream and thankfully our team is seeing them really well.

“Suman Hedge has put so much time and effort into selecting these horses and is an integral part of the team, so it’s nice that he has a share in this colt as well.”

Millane was a gorgeous yearling.

Millane is the second foal and second winner from Group III winning Snitzel mare Fireworks, a sibling to Group I winner Calveen, Group II winner Kosi Bay and stakes-winner Striker.

Segenhoe will offer the yearling colt by I Am Invincible to Millane as Lot 169 at Inglis Easter.

Fireworks was sent to the UK last year after missing the previous season to Written Tycoon.

Millane is the 27th stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar and is the fourth by Zoustar to carry a double cross of Redoute’s Choice.

Zoustar had three colts sell for $1million or more in 2021 and now all of them are winners with Millane joining stakes-winner Brereton and impressive debut winner Zamborghini.
