Daysee Doom in foal to Wootton Bassett Entered for Chairman's Sale

Media Release - Thursday March 3

Elite G1-winning mare and former darling of the turf Daysee Doom is among the latest confirmed entries for the 2022 Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

During a spectacular racetrack career in which the Australian public adored the Ron Quinton-trained mare for her tenacity and consistency, Daysee Doom won $1,244,725 in earnings, with her first 19 starts resulting in nine wins and a further five Stakes placings.

Daysee Doom defeated G1 winners such as In Her Time, Global Glamour, Alizee, Dixie Blossoms, First Seal, Egg Tart, Invincibella, Abbey Marie, Shillelagh, Prompt Response, Spright, Silent Sedition, I Am A Star, Foxplay, Volpe Veloce, Savvy Coup, Amphitrite, Single Gaze, Heavens Above etc as well as the likes of Omei Sword, Oregon’s Day, Eckstein, Bring Me Roses, Missrock, Formality, Champagne Cuddles, Luvaluva, Noire, Princess Posh, French Emotion, Zanbagh, Happy Hannah, Danish Twist, Ellicazoom etc.

Her finest hour came in the 2018 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill where she was a stunning winner of the G1 feature when carrying 57kg, joining an elite group of fillies and mares including Sunline, Emancipation and Bounding Away to win the race with 57kg or more.

Daysee Doom will be offered at the Chairman’s Sale as part of the Sledmere Stud draft, in foal believed to be carrying a colt to Coolmore’s star international stallion Wootton Bassett.

Jack Griffin, who bred and raced Daysee Doom, said the decision to sell her came with mixed emotions.

“She’s one of the best mares of the past 5-10 years, she gave us some of the best memories of our lives but I’m 77 now, turning 78 soon enough and breeding horses is a long-term thing so I’ve decided to move out of her and let some other lucky breeder take her on,’’ Griffin said.

“She’s got two beautiful youngsters on the ground already, an Exceed And Excel yearling colt and a Deep Field weanling filly, both of whom I’ll keep to race and they are both the most magnificent types, so I know she throws absolute top-quality progeny.

“She’s just a fantastic mare in every way, I mean she was so popular during her racing days that everybody fell in love with her. She’s got her own amazing personality, she’s a great physical, already a beautiful producer and now some lucky person can continue the dream run that I’ve had with her from the start.’’

Senior Bloodstock Consultant at Inglis Harry Bailey expressed his delight at the addition of Daysee Doom to the catalogue.

“Daysee Doom is an absolute standout in every way and is sure to be highly sought after,’’ Bailey said.

“She raced the best and beat the best season after season in Sydney, she was as tough as they come and had abundant class.

“She is a breeders dream in many respects, particularly given she is a Danehill-free daughter of Domesday, the broodmare sire of Trapeze Artist.

“She is one of the best mares in the first Australian book of Wootton Bassett, who has the potential to be a sire sensation in this part of the world and it is a real honour to have the opportunity to offer her to the market as part of this great sale.’’

The Inglis Chairman’s Sale has generated extraordinary results over the past three years and has asserted itself the optimum sale to market and sell elite breeding stock through.

Three of the four highest-priced pregnant mares sold at public auction in Australasia in 2019-2021 were done so at the Chairman’s Sale.

In 2021 alone, the sale averaged a Southern Hemisphere record $532,736 and 91% clearance rate, while the Chairman’s average price ($674,118) for fillies and mares off the track and median ($342,500) were 137% higher and 185% higher respectively than the nearest competitor’s equivalent.

“The Chairman’s Sale has become one of the nights of the year on the Southern Hemisphere sales calendar since its inception a few years ago and we are excited by the prospect of further enhancing it in 2022 as both a sale and a spectacle,” Inglis Bloodstock Chief Executive Sebastian Hutch said.

“Already we have some really special lots confirmed for the sale, including the likes of top-class fillies Night Raid, Madam Legend and Highly Discreet, as just a sample, so it’s a sale that we are again extremely excited about.

“There is no better sale, arguably in the world, when it comes to direct and targeted promotion of catalogued lots and as the statistics clearly show, it’s evident that the buyers appreciate that.

“The timing and the convenience of the sale are very significant factors, particularly for pregnant mares and we are looking forward to continuing to work with clients to deliver another outstanding group of mares for the 2022 renewal in early May.’’

The 2022 Chairman’s Sale will be held at Riverside Stables on Friday May 6.
