Xtravagant Filly Wins G2 Angus Armanasco

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 26

Bred and sold by Newhaven Park, Xtravagant filly Lavish Girl was too strong for blue-blood fillies Argentia (Frankel) and Yearning (Snitzel) at Caulfield on Saturday when taking out the Group II MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) to become the third stakes-winner for her promising young sire.

Not far away in several stakes races during the spring, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Lavish Girl has been in work over the summer and had race fitness on her side for this assignment.

She travelled forward to lead for Ben Melham and repelled all challengers to win by a length and a quarter taking her overall record to three wins from nine starts with prizemoney in excess of $305,000.

“She was able to lead comfortably, travelled well in the straight and let down and won well in the end,” said Ben Melham.

Purchased by Ciaron Maher Racing for $110,000 from the Newhaven Park draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Lavish Girl runs for a syndicate that includes Newhaven Park and Seymour Bloodstock in whose colours she runs.

She is the first-named foal of the winning Snitzel mare Ends in Tears, a half-sister to Group II placed Snogging from the family of Group II winner Hadabeclorka.

Lavish Girl has a 2YO brother named Immodest, who Maher purchased for just $20,000 at last year’s Inglis Classic.

Ends in Tears was one of 114 mares covered last spring by Newhaven Park’s young sire Cool Aza Beel.

Lavish Girl is the third stakes-winner for Champion Kiwi sprinter miler Xtravagant, who stands at Newhaven Park at a fee of $11,000.
