Deep Field 2YO Wins Canberra Black Opal Preview

A brilliant debut winner at Rosehill in January, Sweet Ride was then a gallant fifth in the $2million Inglis Millennium behind Xtravagant Star when he was slowly away.

Well ridden by Jean Van Overmeire, he settled on the fence behind the leaders before scooting clear to win by two and a half lengths and has now won over $150,000 from his first three starts.

Recorded as a  $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft, Sweet Ride runs in the colours of his breeder Bert Vieira.

He is the first winner from How Sweet It Is, a four time winner by Foxwedge that was also bred and raced by Vieira and was covered by his former champion Trapeze Artist last spring.

There is some real depth to his female family which has also produced four-time Group I winner Metal Bender, New Zealand Oaks winner Amarelinha and Group winners North Pacific and Missybeel.

Deep Field will have some interesting runners at Caulfield on Saturday with English Riviera running in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and Mars Mission stepping up to stakes company in the Group III MRC Zeditave Stakes.
