$180,000 for Kalashnikov Tops Inglis Digital

Media Release - Wednesday February 23

Inglis Digital has hit a new milestone with over $11 million grossed in the first two months of the calendar year, $1.8 million more than the same period in 2021.

The February (Late) Online Sale concluded this afternoon with a gross of $2.7 million and a clearance of 80% , with G3 Black Opal winner Kalashnikov taking top lot honours.

Kalashnikov sold for $180,000.

Gold Coast-based trainer Lee Freedman went to $180,000 for the 3YO son of Capitalist, who was offered unreserved by his ownership group following a recent trial victory at Randwick.

“He’s a 3YO that’s lightly raced and has already proven he has good speed and has returned from being gelded with a solid trial performance.” Freedman said.

“So he’s shown he has all the attributes of a good, older sprinter and he’s been very popular with existing stable clients, I’ve already sold 60% so there are limited shares available if there is anyone interested in getting involved.

“He’ll go up to the Gold Coast where I believe he will be very well suited and he’s also qualified for BOBS Bonus scheme in NSW so I’ll be happy to travel him back down south for the right races to take advantage of the bonuses.

“I’m a big believer in Inglis Digital, I’ve purchased multiple horses off the site and I’m happy to buy off vendors I know, because I can call them and speak to them about the horses I’m buying.

“I’m finding a number of clients are keen to get involved in horses that are up and ready to go or not far off, they have been big yearling purchasers over the years but also enjoy buying something with a record of ability.”

Kim Waugh purchased the second top lot of the sale, Kingsheir (Kingman), paying $115,000 for the consistent galloper offered by Chris Waller Racing.

“We’ve watched him race and thought he was a really nice horse with plenty of potential,” Waugh said.

“He’s very lightly raced with just 13 starts and won well three starts ago at Rosehill and he’s placed on six other occasions.

“I thought he could be a Country Cups horse – ‘The Big Dance’ on Melbourne Cup day in Sydney is a race I have in mind to target with him.

“We’ve already sold a bit of him to clients but there’s still some left for any interested parties.

“The stable has had quite a bit of luck buying off Inglis Digital, Buba ($60k 2021 September (Early) Sale) is a nice filly and won at her second start for us and Garrison ($90k 2020 September (Early) Sale) has a lot of potential too.”

In other results, Savabeel gelding Don Arcangelo was purchased by Tom Hedley for $65,000, the same price that Belmont Bloodstock secured broodmare Lateral Missile (Smart Missile) for, having been offered as part of the Seymour Bloodstock Reduction in foal to Xtravagant (Pentire), the sire of Inglis Millennium winner Xtravagant Star ($150k 2021 Inglis Premier Sale).

Kooringal Stud’s draft of 12 yearlings grossed $123,250, with a Prized Icon colt out of Lope de Vega mare As You Say the top lot of the draft at $20,000 for Bateup Racing, who purchased two yearlings overall.

Other buyers of the Kooringal draft include Crockett Racing, Ryan Balfour Racing, Emma and Lucy Longmire’s Twinstar Racing and Kendrick Racing.

“It was really great to see some trainers really support the sale,” Kooringal Stud’s Stuart Lamont said.

“Teresa Bateup, Kerry Weir, Stuart Kendrick in Queensland and Ryan Balfour from Adelaide, who is a good supporter of Kooringal; the main thing is that these yearlings are going to good homes, where they’ll get every opportunity.

“We were very happy with the result and look forward to following these horses in the future.”

It’s the second time Kooringal Stud have offered a draft of yearlings through Inglis Digital, with their 2020 offering including the Maher/Eustace trained Jamarra (Duporth), purchased for $30,000 and now a winner and placegetter at Flemington and Caulfield.

“It’s wonderful to hear the positive feedback from buyers who have enjoyed success with their Inglis Digital purchases,” Inglis Digital’s Business Manager Nick Melmeth said.

“During the sale countdown this afternoon, we saw $1250 Digital yearling buy Dream Inherit (Kuroshio) win at Sandown at just his second start, marking the first city winner for both his trainer Yoshimoto Shima and jockey Tatum Bull.

“We celebrate racing results like this for buyers and also the sale results every auction for our vendors.

“With our database of more than 9000 registered bidders, Inglis Digital continues to be the leader in the online auction market.’’

Entries for the March (Early) Online Sale will close at midnight (AEDT) on Wednesday, March 9.
