One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 20

It’s been a big weekend for the Chris Waller stable and the winners kept coming on Sunday with an impressive maiden winner at Ballarat that has a half-sister to be offered at Inglis Premier.

Three year-old Star Witness gelding Jester did plenty wrong and had no luck when narrowly beaten at Pakenham at the start of the month and made amends in uncertain terms at start number two.

Sent to the post a hot favourite with Craig Williams on board, Jester gave punters no cause for concern when powering clear to win by two lengths.

“He’s a horse that’s going somewhere,” said Craig Williams, who has ridden Jester in both of his races to date.

“He’s improved a lot from his first start, but is nowhere near the finished product, so he's really exciting going forward.”

A $200,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Hawkes Racing from the Longwood Thoroughbred Farm draft, Jester runs for Tora Racing and is the second winner from Fiery Jest, a winning half-sister by Testa Rossa to stakes-winner Spanish Bay from the family of Group I winner Khaptingly.

Longwood Thoroughbred Farm will offer the current yearling from Fiery Jest, a filly by Rubick, as Lot 774 at Inglis Premier.

Lot 774 is the half-sister to Jester.

Jester is bred on a very successful nick between Star Witness and daughters of Testa Rossa which has produced eight winners from 12 starters highlighted by dual Group I winner Global Glamour and stakes-winner Lycurgus.
