Million Dollar Exceed And Excel Colt Breaks Maiden at Canterbury.

Mark Smith - Friday February 18

Never a factor when debuting in the Group III ATC Breeders’ Plate last October, the $1,050,000 yearling Psychiatrist led at every call in Friday’s Stud & Stable Staff Awards Maiden (1200m) at Canterbury.

Ridden by Tim Clark for Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, the Fung family’s son of Exceed And Excel was never in danger in defeating stablemate Atoine, a daughter of Shalaa (IRE), by three lengths with the $550,000 Snitzel debutant Showcourt a long neck back in third.

Bred by A List Stud, Psychiatrist was consigned by Vinery Stud to the Inglis Easter Australian Yearling Sale.

He was the second highest priced Exceed And Excel at the sale behind Nobel who was also purchased by Tony Fung Investments for $2.1million.

A brother in blood to Group II VRC How Now Stakes winner Manicure (Exceed And Excel), Psychiatrist is the first foal of the Lonhro mare Sanity a Wyong maiden winner in a 2-start career.

A daughter of the Group III winner Firm (Night Shift), Sanity is a half-sister to Stubborn, the dam of Group 1 Makybe Stakes winner Gatting.

Consigned by Godolphin to the 2019 National Broodmare sale, Sanity was purchased by Laceby Lodge Stud for $800,000.

She has a yearling filly by Brazen Beau and a colt foal by I Am Invincible. Sanity was covered by Ole Kirk last spring after missing on an earlier cover to Deep Field.
