Group I-winning miler retired

Ben Dorries - Tuesday September 26

A year after his win in the Group I Epsom Handicap, Godolphin galloper Hauraki has been retired.

2016 Epsom Handicap winner Hauraki has been retired

Over three seasons and 25 starts, Hauraki won five races and was placed another 11 times, earning more than $2.5 million.

As well as his 2016 Epsom win when James McDonald rode him to victory, he was placed another six times at Group I level.

"Horses like Hauraki are hard to find, and when they come along they are appreciated," Godolphin's Australian racing manager Jason Walsh said.

"He was a wonderful asset to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's Australian stable and a credit to his sire Reset.

"As well as that, he was a favourite of everyone in the organisation. He was genuine, honest and talented racehorse who will be missed by us all."
