Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 31

Established stars took a lot of the interest at the Rosehill trials on Monday, but there were still five heats for two years that produced interesting winners including a Zoustar colt that has had three trials since December and won them all.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Metallicity is an eye-catching colt with a giant stride that takes a little while for him to unwind and as a result his best work is always his last furlong. We’ve seen three trials now and each time they’ve been similar, albeit with his racecraft improving with each outing. He settles off the pace and hits the line hard and we've yet to see top gear.

A $340,000 Inglis Easter purchase for China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock from the Segenhoe draft, Metallicity is as ready as he ever will be to go to the races and is a second acceptor for the Golden Slipper.

Metallicity as a yearling.

He is a half-brother to Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Catch Me and three other winners being from well bred O’Reilly mare Captivating Claire.

Captivating Claire consistently produces stunning looking yearlings with three of her offspring outside of Catch Me all selling for $1million or more in the sale ring and while all of them have won, they are yet to achieve Black Type performance.

Speedy Russian Revolution colt Rise of the Masses won his debut at Kembla back in December on a heavy 10 track and looked fit and sharp winning his heat for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott over a pair of expensive Snitzel colts.

He’s a homebred for Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock, who tasted success last Saturday with their brilliant filly Queen of the Ball in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes. Rise of the Masses has a half-sister by I Am Invincible that has been entered for Inglis Easter as Lot 393, so Black Type for him will mean more dollars for her!

Other 2YO heat winners were: Seven Veils (Shalaa (IRE), Okataina (Savabeel)  and Our Lady Stardust (Rubick), whose heat featured the first appearance of $900,000 Not a Single Doubt filly Lomandra, the half-sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Tagaloa.

$900,000 Inglis Easter purchase Lomandra was an eye-catcher.

Trained by Team Hawkes, Lomandra finished off really well for third and we’ll be interested to see if she trials again or pops straight into a race given time is on the wing for Slipper prospects and she’s in the list of second acceptors.
