Zebrowski Wins G3 Centenary Vase

Tara Madgwick - Sunday January 30

Second in the 2020 Group I ATC Australian Derby to Quick Thinker, quality stayer Zebrowski has hit his best form in Hong Kong winning the Group III Centenary Vase (1800m) at Sha Tin on Sunday to follow on from his win in the Group III January Cup (1800m) earlier this month.

Previously trained by Team Hawkes, Zebrowski was sold to Hong Kong after finishing second in the 2020 Group II MRC Herbert Power and fifth in the Listed Bendigo Cup.

The Savabeel gelding is now with Caspar Fownes and scored a short head win taking his overall record to five wins and six placings from 20 starts.

Caspar Fownes is contemplating a start in the Group I Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m) for Zebrowski next month after his tenacious win.

“He’s stepping up to every task and sometimes you have to throw them in the deep end a little bit, out of their comfort zone rating-wise.

“If he ran in a Gold Cup he certainly wouldn’t be disgraced – he’d still be a first-four chance in my opinion because he’s such a good stayer. Most importantly, we will see how he pulls up because he’s a ‘jointy’ horse, he has his issues,” Fownes said.

Zebrowski is a sibling to Group winners Leebaz, Polish Knight and Euro Angel, dam of this season’s stakes-winner Mr Mozart being from star producer Polish Princess (GB), a stakes-winning daughter of Polish Precedent.
