Queen Rules in G3 Widden

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 29

Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock enjoyed a great result in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday when their homebred I Am Invincible filly Queen of the Ball led from barrier to box.

A close second at her only previous start to Ojai in the ATC Kirkham Plate last October, the Richard and Michael Freedman trained filly was tuned up with a good recent trial and was fit and ready to fire.

Drawn the outside in the field of 10, Queen of the Ball was given a brilliant ride by Rachel King, who sent the filly straight across to find the fence and take the lead.

From that point, Queen of the Ball had the race in her keeping and thrashed the opposition to win by nearly four lengths over Russian Revolution filly Revolutionary Miss with race favourites Ebhaar and Ojai both out of the placings.

Her time of was 1:03.53  quicker than the colts division won by Best of Bordeaux with her last 600 nearly a second quicker.

“We were a bit worried about the outside gate, but I said to Rachel if she began well to use her speed,” said Michael Freedman.

“There’s not much of her, but she’s as tough as old boots and would be one of the biggest eaters in the stable and just loves her racing.

“Great result for Sir Owen Glenn to get a Group three win with a well bred filly like her.

“Hopefully if she can just improve a little bit off the back of that she can be in the Slipper mix.”

Queen of the Ball returns to scale a stakes-winner!

Queen of the Ball is the first foal from stakes-winning Fastnet Rock mare Miss Debutante, who was also raced by Go Bloodstock and was bought as a yearling from the Kia Ora draft at Inglis Easter in 2015 for $430,000.

Miss Debutante is from imported Group II winning More Than Ready mare More than Real (USA), whose dam and grand-dam are also stakes-winners, so Queen of the Ball has a Black Type direct female lineage to be proud of.

Miss Debutante has a yearling filly by Zoustar, a weanling filly by Written Tycoon and was served last spring by Flying Artie.

Queen of the Ball is the 75th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible and is his second stakes-winner from a daughter of Fastnet Rock.
