Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 20

This time last year an unraced I Am Invincible colt won his first barrier trial earning a highlight slot in the ‘Juvenile Trial Watch’ story of the day and 12 months on that colt is Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Home Affairs and he had a good pipe opener at Warwick Farm this morning.

The Chris Waller trained colt cruised around in his trial leading all the way for Jay Ford to win under a hold from late closing Icebath in an 800m heat that featured a galaxy of stars including Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant.

Three heats for two year-olds featured some familiar names with exciting I Am Invincible filly Ebhaar clocking the quickest time of 47.18 seconds looking the goods in beating another I Am Invincible filly in Mumbai Jewel with undefeated Breeders Plate and Golden Gift winner Sejardan a comfortable fourth.

A homebred for Emirates Park, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Ebhaar won the Listed MRC Merson Cooper stakes on debut and that won’t be the last stakes race she wins judging by this trial!

She is a half-sister to Group III placed Shotmaker and her dam Maroon Bay is a three-quarter sister to Group I winner Merchant Navy, Group II winner Jolie Bay and stakes-winner Setanta.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Street Boss (USA) colt El Padrino has already shown his hand winning the $400,000 Inglis Nursery and he looked to be enjoying himself this morning with a good trial win under Tommy Berry.

A half-sister to El Padrino by Saxon Warrior (Jpn) made $210,000 at Magic Millions last week when bought by Griffiths de Kock Racing/Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA)/Heywood Bloodstock  and she might prove to be very good investment if he can scale the heights during the autumn.

The third heat for two year-olds was won by the Clarry Conners trained Outreach gelding Starry Jack, but there was probably more interest in the place-getters Queen of the Ball, Boldinhro and Shalatin, who have all shown good ability in quality two year-old races last year.
