Bargain Buys Chasing $2million Magic Millions Dream – Gold Coast Sale Mail

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 12

The Magic Millions Yearling Sale might be all about the razzle dazzle of high priced colts and sleek super model fillies, but the reality of the 2022 Magic Millions 2YO Classic race this Saturday is a big field of 16 plus emergencies with the race favourite Coolangatta bought for $280,000 and several key runners coming via the bargain basement.

Coolangatta was a $280,000 purchase from the Milburn Creek draft for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock..

$280,00 still sounds like a lot of money to a normal person with a mortgage, but put that in the contest of 33 yearlings by her sire Written Tycoon being sold at the sale for an average $332,727, so Coolangatta sold for less than the average price for the progeny of her sire.

She was very much the middle of the road with 16 yearlings by Written Tycoon sold for more than her and the same amount for less.

Book 2 of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale in June has produced three runners for Les Ross and his main owner Mike Crooks of Mishani Enterprises in Mishani Spartan, Mishani Welfare and Mishani Persuasion.

The trio were all bred by Mishani Enterprises and bought back for a grand total of $12,000, with Mishani Welfare selling for $8,000 and the other two for $2,000 each.

They have returned nearly $400,000 between them so far and have the chance to run for a lot more on Saturday!

Bright Blue Sky was a $600,000 purchase from the Coolmore draft for David Ellis of Te Akau.

Most expensive runner this year is Te Akau’s entry Bright Blue Sky, a glorious looking Fastnet Rock filly who was bought for $600,000 and sent back to New Zealand where she won a stakes race on debut.

Russian Conquest was a $425,000 purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Snowden Racing.

Undefeated Russian Revolution filly Russian Conquest was the equal most expensive yearling from the first crop of her sire Russian Revolution fetching $425,000 for Newgate Farm , who stand her sire and remain in her ownership.

Miss Hellfire was a $60,000 purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Triple Crown Syndications.

Miss Hellfire was also sold in the same Newgate Farm draft as Russian Conquest, but the daughter of Hellbent was a comparative pauper, snapped up by Triple Crown Syndications for just $60,000.
