Deep Impact Group Two Winner for Coolmore

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 25
The deeds of Japanese sire sensation Deep Impact are something that interest our readers given we have two of his Group I winning sons standing at Arrowfield Stud this spring and we well will see a small number of his yearlings offered at our sales next year.

A powerful win in the Group II Beresford Stakes in Ireland overnight for the Coolmore owned Deep Impact colt Saxon Warrior is well worth exploring further.

Deep ImpactSaxon Warrior is the second homebred stakes-winner for Coolmore by Deep Impact following on from this year's impressive Group I placed two year-old filly September (from Peeping Fawn).

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, two year-old colt Saxon Warrior was an easy debut winner at The Curragh last month and looked a horse of real Classic potential when cruising home to win the one mile Beresford Stakes by more than two lengths with Ryan Moore in the saddle.

"We were a bit worried about the ground and Ryan confirmed that it wasn't ideal for Saxon Warrior, but he was impressed with him and said he travelled strongly and quickened well," said Aidan O'Brien.

"He said he has plenty of pace. He's a Classic horse for next year. He doesn't have to have another run this season but we'll wait and see."

Saxon Warrior is a full brother to this year's stakes-placed three year-old filly Pavlenko and is the second winner for Group I winning Galileo mare Maybe, who comes from the family of Epsom Derby winner Dr Devious and Epsom Oaks winner Dancing Rain.

Arrowfield Stud is standing two Deep Impact stallions this spring with Real Impact (Jpn), whose first foals are being born priced at $19,250, while newcomer Mikki Isle (Jpn) stands at $13,750.
