One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 24
By High Chaparral (IRE) from the family of legendary blue hen Eight Carat (GB), this easy maiden winner at Ballarat was the obvious choice as our 'One to Watch' on Sunday.

Prepared by Mick Price, three year-old filly Hiyaam was fifth on debut at Geelong in July when unwanted by punters, but was much better fancied when stepping out in the 1400 metre maiden at Ballarat.

High ChaparralShe ran accordingly, powering straight to the front for Patrick Moloney to have all her rivals off the bit when turning for home.

She cruised to the line to win by nearly two lengths in a dominant performance that will have connections looking at a lot better races.

A homebred for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Hiyaam is the second winner for blue-blooded Zabeel mare Mazarine, a full sister to Group I winner Shower of Roses.

Mazarine is an unraced daughter of Group I winner Marquise, a sibling to champion racehorse Octagonal and Group I winners Diamond Lover, Mouawad and Kaapstad from the legend Eight Carat.

Closely related to High Chaparral's Group II winner Forever Loved, Hiyaam has the pedigree to suggest she could be going places fast.
