Trapeze Artist ($41) defeated Champagne Cuddles by 4 1/4-lengths in the Golden Rose (1400m) with stable mate Menari a head behind in third place as the $2.40 favourite.

Trainer Gerald Ryan had suggested previously he might consider running Trapeze Artist next Saturday in the Group I Epsom Handicap for which he was as low as $8 following the Golden Rose win.

The last three-year-old to win an Epsom Handicap was Noholme in 1959 however, after consultation with connections Ryan has decided against it.

"I'm not going to do it," Ryan told Sky Sports Radio. "We thought about it a couple of weeks ago but I think coming off a run like that (Saturday) and him being wide - no, we won't do it.

"He's come out of the race good but we'll head towards the Coolmore (Stud Stakes) at Flemington with him and he'll have a run before then, maybe in the Roman Consul Stakes in two weeks time."

Ryan said Menari will be freshened and also aimed at Flemington's spring carnival.

"He'll have a freshen up and go straight into the Coolmore," Ryan said. "George (Altomonte, owner) has left it up to me and Menari will not be going to the Everest.

"He's got to chase a Group I and the only left is the Coolmore - I reckon he'll be a great straight track horse."

Ryan could still have an Epsom runner in Saturday's impressive Shannon Stakes winner Washington Heights.

"We haven't said no and we haven't said yes," Ryan said. "Looking at the horse and the way he's come out of the race we'll make a decision after he has a swim and a trot around on Monday morning."

Washington Heights is available at $12 in the Epsom Handicap with Sportsbet behind the $4 favourite Happy Clapper.
