Second Winner for Spieth

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 8

Just a day after Aquis Farm’s Spieth sired his first winner, he followed up with a second as Wild Botanica broke the ice at Ipswich.

Trained by Kacy Fogden, Wild Botanica contested the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes back in the spring and was seventh to Magic Millions favourite Coolangatta before going for a brief spell.

She returned with a second at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day and then broke through with a length and a quarter win at Ipswich on Saturday in the 1200m juvenile maiden Mishani Embrace, who is by another of the young Aquis sires in The Mission.

Bred by Aquis, Wild Botanica was a $4,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase and runs  for Loretta Fung. She is the first foal from Colosimo, a metro winning Foxwedge mare from the family of stakes-winner Mutate.

The current yearling from Colosimo is a colt by Written By that will be offered by Newgate Farm at Inglis Classic as Lot 472 and is obviously a good type given he made $70,000 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale last year when bought by Binalong Bloodstock.

A stakes-winning son of Thorn Park, Spieth has had two winners and a place-getter from six runners and was popular with breeders last spring covering 124 mares at a fee of $8,800.
