Bright Future for Capitalist Winner

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 5

Newgate Farm’s Capitalist has quietly surged back to the top of the second season sires list by both earnings and winners with Mark Newnham producing another promising maiden winner by the Golden Slipper winning sire at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Three year-old gelding Stick to Your Guns was resuming from a spell in the 1200m maiden after splitting quality colts Minsk Moment and subsequent spring stakes-winner Bend the Knee when finishing  second at Canterbury back in June.

He was sent out favourite and raced on the pace before finding the line well for Tom Sherry to win by a length and a quarter with his trainer tipping better wins are in store.

“That was good to see as he’s a horse of good natural ability, but he’s not really sure of his job jet yet,” said Mark Newnham.

“He was strong late and I’m sure he has a really good future.”

Darby Racing have had a lot of success with Inglis Classic purchases such as Stick to Your Guns.

Stick to Your Guns was an $80,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Darby Racing / Will Johnson Bloodstock and was bred and sold by Darling Downs breeder Ron Gilbert’s Highgrove Stud.

Stick to Your Guns is the first foal from Marli, an unraced half-sister by So You Think to Listed ATC Breeders Plate winner Khan from the family of triple Group I winner Manighar (Fr).

Stick to Your Guns is the first runner and first winner bred on the Capitalist x So You Think cross which might hold good potential with the speed and precocity of Capitalist offset by the size and scope of So You Think.

Capitalist has sired 29 winners of over $2.5million this season and has a big draft of 42 entries for Magic Millions next week.
