Debut Winner for American Pharoah

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 31

Champion trainer Peter Moody purchased a number of first crop American Pharoah (USA) yearlings in 2020 and produced an impressive debut winner by the Triple Crown winner at Moonee Valley on New Year’s Eve.

Three year-old gelding Daytona Bay was expected to race well and went to the post as favoruite for the 1200m maiden taking on older rivals.

Despite racing greenly at the finish, Daytona Bay had enough on the opposition to win by more than a length and will take plenty of benefit from the experience.

A $360,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from the Curraghmore draft for his trainer, Daytona Bay runs for Ron and Judy Wanless, who have enjoyed much success with Peter Moody over the years.

A half-brother to Group III placed Toscanini, Daytona Bay is the second winner from Group III winning High Chaparral (IRE) mare Soubrettes, who was covered by American Pharoah again in 2020 and produced a filly foal in November.

American Pharoah has a dozen entries for both 2022 Magic Millions and Inglis Classic.
