One to Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 29

This three year-old Capitalist colt has had a good grounding at the barrier trials and unleashed for real at Gosford on race day produced an explosive debut victory.

Trained by Mark Newnham and ridden by Tommy Sherry, Shadow Devil was allowed to settle back early in the 1100m maiden, but when asked to hit the line he charged to the post and won running away by two lengths.

“He’s always shown us nice ability at home, but we’ve given him plenty of time as he was a late foal (November 20), so he’s had a lot of small preps and trials,” said Mark Newnham.

“The way he let down here today was really impressive.”

Shadow Devil was a $135,000 Inglis Easter Round 2 purchase.

A $135,000 Inglis Easter Round 2 purchase for Sweetbriar Equine from the Corumbene Stud draft, Shadow Devil is the second winner from Cloak of Night, a winning Lonhro half-sister to stakes-placed Beatitude from the family of stakes-winners Prince Regent, Italy and Crown Jester, the sire of Golden Slipper winners Rory’s Jester and Guineas.
