Neilson came down aboard Charossa which clipped the heels of the Raquel Clark-ridden Tan Tat Flame and fell near the 300m-mark of the first race, the Three-Year-Old Maiden over 1000m.

He was treated on the track for fractured ribs and a punctured lung before being transported to Royal Adelaide Hospital where he has been diagnosed with four fractured vertebrae (C1, C2, C4 & T5) but doctors have confirmed there is no damage to his spinal cord and it is not anticipated he will require surgery.

It is expected Neilson will be walking within a few days and will wear a neck brace for at least four weeks.

Charossa suffered abrasions to its chest and off hind leg but is otherwise uninjured.

Racing SA Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the fall to a date and time to be fixed until Neilson can be in attendance.
