Lonhro's Roheryn Goes Back To Back in Falvelon

Mark Smith - Sunday December 26

Twelve months ago, Roheryn won the Listed Falvelon Quality at Eagle Farm, which earned him a wildcard entry for the $1million Snippets Sprint on magic Millions Day on the Gold Coast, where he clocked in third.

Godolphin's 6yo son of Lonhro will be on a similar mission after claiming the Falvelon again, this time at Doomben on Boxing Day.

The race changed dramatically in the final 100 metres. The short-priced favourite Zoustyle was cruising in front but found little under  pressure as James McDonald switched Roheryn back to the rails to mount a challenge.

In a three-horse war, Roheryn defeated the heavily backed Baller (High Chaparral) by a neck with a further long head back to Soxagon (Rocker).

With his first win since the same race last year, Roheyn advances his record to eight three two from 24 starts with earnings of $779,350.

"He is a lovely horse fresh-up," stable representative Sean Keogh said.

"James (Cummings) thought the six weeks between runs was ideal. To get a horse to the Magic Millions is super for the team.

"He is in fine form and hopefully can continue that on to the Magic Millions.

"it has been a wonderful day for the team all round. We have had eight winners around the country at every track we have taken a horse."

A half-brother to Group 1 VRC Victoria Derby hero Benicio and the Group II MVRC Sportingbet Classic winner Romneya, Roheryn is the final foal of Mannington who Darley purchased for $2,050,000 at the 2005 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.

A Group III winning half-sister to Coolmore Classic heroine Bollinger, Mannington is the product of multiple champion stallion Danehill and the Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay.

Lonhro

Mannington spent a good deal of her broodmare career in Kentucky. She left the unraced Kingmambo filly Rose Trail, the dam of the French Group III winner Rose Imperial (Pivotal) and the dual Listed winner Rosental (Pivotal).

Romneya is the dam of the multiple Group-placed Matilija (Medaglia d'Oro). Another daughter of Mannington, Rhema, is the dam of the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Always Allison.

Mannington died in May 2017. She had 11 foals, and nine made it to the track with seven winners.

Lonhro has 16 catalogued for the Magic Millions and two at the Inglis Classic.
