Breednet Favourite Foal of 2021

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 23

The votes from our readers have been tallied to decide the Breednet Favourite Foal of 2021 and it would seem Darley’s exciting young sire Blue Point (IRE) already has a winner before his stock even hit the racetrack!

A three time Group I winning sprinter at Royal Ascot, Shamardal’s champion son Blue Point is the sire of this charismatic colt from stakes-winning Magnus mare Prettyhappyaboutit.

He was bred by South Australian breeders David and Rebecca Toole of Kambula Stud and photographed by Lisa Richards, who is usually best known for her stunning images of Hunter Valley foals.

Congratulations to our 2021 Breednet Favourite Foal!

“I've been good friends with the Toole family since I worked at a couple of Adelaide Yearling Sales for Kambula about 10 years ago and this season, South Australia was the only place I could travel to from Queensland, so I thought it was a good chance to catch up with the Toole’s and take some photos while I was there,” said Lisa Richards.

“Both David and Rebecca had told me before I got there that they had a gorgeous colt by Blue Point and he is definitely one of the nicest foals I've seen this season!

“He's a lovely strong foal and has a presence about him, one of those foals that know they are special and love the camera. I spent two mornings sitting in his paddock and he had an eye on me all the time while he ran around showing off.”

The first two foals from Prettyhappyaboutit are both winners with the best being stakes-placed Yulong Command, who was bought by Yulong for $300,000 at Inglis Easter and has won back his purchase price and more.

Prettyhappyaboutit has a two year-old Sebring colt that sold at Inglis Premier for $120,000 this year to Greg Eurell and a yearling filly to follow by Dundeel.

“This colt has got the breeding to go with the type and I'm looking forward to seeing how he's grown when I go back to do Kambula's yearling photos in a couple of months,” Richards added.

Below are two more images of this year's winner at Kambula Stud.
