Suspension costs Sydney jockey a ride in The Everest

Clinton Payne - Sunday September 24

Two jockeys booked for the $10 million The Everest were suspended from the Golden Rose on Saturday but the penalty ends 24 hours before the race for one while the other could be forced to watch from home.

Josh Parr told stewards he had been confirmed to ride the Gerald Ryan-trained Deploy in the feature sprint at Randwick on October 14 and his 11-meeting penalty, which starts immediately, will end on October 13.

Parr pleaded guilty to causing interference in the early stages of the race while rival jockey Blake Shinn pleaded not guilty to the same charge and was handed a 10-meeting ban when stewards found him guilty.

Stewards ruled Shinn shifted in when not two lengths clear of Chauffeur, taking that runner in onto Shogun Sun which had to be checked.

Shinn holds riding commitments up until next Sunday in Melbourne and will start the ban on Monday week.

He was given a 10-meeting suspension and won't be back in the saddle until October 20, the day before Caulfield Cup day, meaning he will be suspended on October 14, the day he is booked to ride English in The Everest.

Shinn indicated he would appeal the suspension.
