Encouraging Return for Socialist

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 3

Talented Capitalist filly Socialist was backed as if unbeatable in the Benchmark 64 event at Randwick on Friday against older mares and the three year-old proved well up to the task when scoring an easy three quarter length win.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Socialist had good form last preparation with a second to subsequent stakes-winner Xtremetime followed by a Canterbury maiden win and then two handy efforts in Black type races.

Tuned up with two recent trials, Socialist was fit and ready to fire, finishing off strongly from back in the field for James McDonald to register her second win from seven starts with her earnings now just shy of $90,000.

Socialist was a $130,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Kitchwin Hills draft.

A $130,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Kitchwin Hills draft for Ciaron Maher Racing, Socialist is a half-sister to Group I placed Cornrow and is the sixth winner from six foals to race from stakes-winning Exceed and Excel mare Baby Corn.

Silverdale Farm will offer the full brother to Socialist at Inglis Classic as Lot 396.

The colt was bought as a pinhook from Magic Millions National Weanling Sale out of the Kitchwin Hills draft for $300,000 so his connections will be cheering Socialist to chase Black Type before he hits the sale ring.
