Winx in Foal to Pierro

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 2

The ownership group of champion mare Winx have announced their champion has tested positive to Coolmore’s Golden Slipper winning sire Pierro.

Winx retired to stud in 2019, but her first covering to I Am Invincible resulted in a tragic outcome with the mare losing a foal by I Am Invincible and very nearly losing her life as well.

Following a successful recovery, Winx was deemed fit for another attempt at stud and so far all is well for the champion after being covered on October 17.

Pierro is the best son of champion sire Lonhro, who has an emerging nick with Winx’s sire Street Cry , with five winners from six runners bred this way highlighted by Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre.

Three more stakes-winners - Arcaded, Osborne Bulls and Gaulois  - are by Street Cry or his son Street Boss (USA) from Lonhro mares, so there is a growing affinity between the two sires.
