New Metro winner for Rebel Dane

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 26

With placings at his first three starts, the Gary Portelli trained Rebel Shadow was overdue for a win and got the job done at Canterbury last night giving Glen Eden Stud’s Rebel Dane a new metropolitan winner.

Gelded after finishing second at his first two starts back in May and June, Rebel Shadow was third on his return at Canterbury earlier this month.

Sent out favourite last night for the 1250m maiden, Rebel Shadow got up right on the line to win by a head on the testing heavy 10 track.

Racing in the same Laurel Oak Bloodstock colours that were carried by his dual Group I winning sire sire Rebel Dane, who was also trained by Gary Portelli, Rebel Shadow runs for a big group of very happy owners.

Rebel Shadow is the first foal of Red Silhouette, a winning half-sister by Rip Van Winkle to Group III winner Manolo Blahniq from stakes-winner Floramour.

Rebel Dane is a Premium stallion.
With his oldest progeny just three year-olds, Rebel Dane has a first crop of just 26 foals that have so far produced four winners and three place-getters from just 11 runners with Group III winner Subterranean and stakes-placed Lloyd’s Crown the highlight horses.

That success has ensured Rebel Dane is now covering his biggest book of mares so far this spring after covering just 92 mares in his first four seasons.

Rebel Dane stands at Glen Eden Stud a fee of $8,800.
