Final Results for Remarkable 2021 Ready to Run Sale

Media Release - Friday November 26

After a strong two days of trading horses virtually, final results have been accumulated for New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2021 Ready to Run Sale.

The small but quality catalogue saw 185 two-year-olds sell for a total turnover of $21,380,500, up more than $3 million on 2020’s result. The average reached $115,570, while the median settled at $80,000. Several sales have been finalised since the end of Day Two which has seen the overall clearance rate climb to 72%.

Top lot was this Savabeel colt from Etiquette.

The highest priced two-year-old was sold on Day One (Lot 107), a colt by prolific sire Savabeel out of O’Reilly mare Etiquette (NZ). The juvenile will join the Te Akau Racing stable, after David Ellis purchased him for $640,000 from Ohukia Lodge’s draft.

Ellis also secured the leading purchaser by aggregate title, buying 11 two-year-olds for a total spend of $2,050,000.

NZB’s Managing Director Andrew Seabrook commented on the final results a week after the sale has passed.

“Last year we faced the challenge of not having any international buyers on the grounds at Karaka. This year the pandemic challenged us even further, forcing us to host the Ready to Run Sale in a virtual environment, with no international buyers or horses physically present,” he said.

“We are thrilled by what we accomplished over the two days of selling, with the key sale indicators climbing substantially on 2020’s results.

“This year, the market strength accelerated both domestically and internationally and we saw our user-friendly online bidding platform account for more than 51% of lots sold, turning over more than $9.5 million remotely.

“We are pleased to see this statistic climb year on year, as people become more confident with purchasing horses through the digital landscape,” he said.

Sam and Hana Beatson of Riversley Park claimed the leading consignor by aggregate title for the fifth consecutive year, selling 23 two-year-olds for $4,792,500. In second place was Jamie and Chanelle Beatson’s Ohukia Lodge, who sold 22 juveniles for $4,242,500.

Seabrook also commented on the level of service provided by this year’s consignors, NZ-based agents and NZB staff.

“I would also like to thank the consignors for preparing their horses to an unrivalled standard, along with embracing the virtual format by suppling high quality media and information to our buyers,” he added.

“It was great to see the extra effort they put into marketing their horses come to fruition in the virtual ring. This, coupled with the canvassing efforts of our Bloodstock team and the assistance of New Zealand-based agents, aided another successful sale under unusual circumstances.

“I am immensely proud of our team at NZB, with all the work they put in behind the scenes in the months prior to the sale, while going above and beyond to make the sale happen at Te Rapa,” he said.
