Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 23

Australian Bloodstock might have got lucky when they paid just $55,000 for an Extreme Choice colt at Inglis Easter round two last year from the Newgate Farm draft.

Spellcatcher was a $55,000 Inglis Easter round 2 purchase for Australian Bloodstock.

Trained by Kris Lees, three year-old Spellcatcher finished third at his first start at Scone back in January and was subsequently gelded.

He was well fancied on his return in the 1200m maiden at Newcastle on Tuesday and scored a dominant win.

Spellcatcher raced on the pace and powered clear to win by more than two lengths.

Bred by SF Bloodstock and Hollymount Stud, Spellcatcher was foaled and raised at Newgate and is the first winner for stakes-winning O’Reilly mare Spellbinder.

Spellbinder has a yearling colt by Deep Field that will be offered by Newgate at 2022 Inglis Classic as Lot 263.

She has a colt foal to follow by Tassort.

Spellbinder is the 11th overall winner for Extreme Choice, who has posted remarkable stats from his first crop, who are now three year-olds.

From this initial crop of 46 foals, 26 have raced and 11 have won with six of them stakes-winners making for a 23% stakes-winner to runner strike rate.
