Juvenile Trial Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 22

The John O’Shea stable produced a couple of well bred two year-old trial winners at Hawkesbury on Monday by champion sires Written Tycoon and Zoustar.

Retained to race by her breeders Yulong after being withdrawn from Inglis Classic, Written Tycoon filly Pretty Shamrock showed great improvement from her first quiet trial at Rosehill earlier this month.

Ridden by James McDonald, Pretty Shamrock jumped well but travelled deep throughout and surged to the lead after turning for home before forging clear to win by nearly three lengths.

A powerful looking filly with a big back end, she’s certainly got the look of a two year-old runner and is quite clearly stamped by her sire.

Pretty Shamrock is built for speed!

Pretty Shamrock is the second foal of metro winning O’Reilly mare Empress O’Reilly, whose dam is a half-sister to Group I New Zealand Derby winner Great Command.

Zoustar colt King’s Star also improved sharply from his first trial, bouncing to the lead for James McDonald and staying there. He was asked to quicken at the finish and did so to win by a couple of lengths.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Miilburn Creek draft for International Thoroughbred Solutions, King’s Star runs for a big ownership group that includes Werrett Bloodstock and Rifa Mustang.

King's Star as a yearling, his pedigree is a real mix of speed and classic quality.

King’s Star is from Demanding Queen, a half-sister by Commands to Group II placed Sunnah and blue hen Imposingly, the dam of six stakes-winners headed by New Zealand Horse of the Year Bonneval.
