$500,000 Inglis Nursery Goal for Calgary Stampede

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 17

A $350,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newgate Farm draft, talented Snitzel colt Calgary Stampede opened his career in the best way possible when scoring a professional debut victory at Rosehill on Wednesday.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden for China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and partners, Calgary Stampede had two barrier trials in preparation for this 1100m maiden, finishing third on each occasion, but gaining good experience from the outings.

The two year-old paraded in relaxed fashion in the mounting yard and took his good manners into the race giving Tommy Berry an easy assignment.

He travelled behind the leaders and when angled into the clear was strong to the line running down Nicconi filly Waverider Buoy to win by half a length.

“He’s an absolute dude,” said Tommy Berry.

“He does everything you ask of him and I was really happy with that last 200m where he stretched out well.”

As an Inglis Easter purchase, Calgary Stampede is eligible for the $500,000 Inglis Nursery on December 11 which seems a likely target.

“He’s done everything right at home and under race conditions has been the same,” said Paul Snowden.

“He has a great attitude and constitution and has everything you would want to see in a two year-old.”

Calgary Stampede was bred by the Kolivos family’s Lightning Thoroughbreds and is the second winner from Group III winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Nayeli, who they raced with great success after purchasing her as a yearling at Inglis Easter in 2013 for $260,000.

A grand-daughter of Group I winner Kapchat, Nayeli was a two time Group III winner and won over $350,000 in prizemoney.

She has a yearling colt by I Am Invincible and has foaled this spring producing a filly by the same sire.
