One to Watch – Canberra

Tara Madgwick - Sunday November 14

Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou picked a Canberra juvenile event to kick start the career of this promising Rubick two year-old filly, who won with the proverbial leg in the air.

Evening Star won a barrier trial at Rosehill last week and was sent out a hot favourite for the 1000m scamper.

She cruised clear to win by more than four lengths under Adrian Layt.

Retained to race by her breeder, Evening Star is a half-sister to Group III placed Vanuatu and three other winners being from Fastnet Rock mare Tropicana Lady, an unraced sister to Group I winner Irish Lights, the dam of Group winners Omei Sword and Lipizzaner.

Rubick

Best known as the sire of Everest hero Yes Yes Yes and million dollar earner Rubisaki, Rubick was relocated  to Victoria this year and stands at Swettenham Stud.
