Australian Success Begins at Keeneland November

Media Release - Wednesday October 27

As the Thoroughbred industry becomes increasingly global, Australian buyers are expanding their horizons in search of the world’s best breeding stock.

Keeneland November is a sale not to be missed.

For any Australian breeder, the Keeneland November Sale is a can’t-miss opportunity to obtain high-quality bloodstock that will excel in Australia.

As the premier auction of its kind, the Keeneland November Sale features an outstanding selection of highly prized broodmares and broodmare prospects, exceptional weanlings and exciting horses of racing age. It’s now easier than ever to take part in the 10-day auction, which now includes a new Horses of Racing Age offering on the final day of the sale.

Recent Group 1 success again highlights the opportunity that the Keeneland Breeding Stock Sale presents Australian buyers.

The Group 1 MVRC AJ Moir Stakes winner Wild Ruler, one of Australia’s hottest stallion prospects, is the ultimate flag flyer for buying at Keeneland.

G1 winner Wild Ruler is from a US bred mare purchased from Keeneland November.

His dam, Grade 2 winner Gypsy Robin, an extremely valuable mare in her own right, was purchased at Keeneland in 2013 by Kia Ora Stud

While we are excited to welcome you on-site this November, there are plenty of ways to participate remotely in 2021.

Buyers not in attendance can bid online or over the phone.

Through the Keeneland Sales Portal online, buyers can watch live videos of the sales ring and bid on horses in real time. Buyers will also have the opportunity to bid on Keeneland November’s world-class bloodstock offerings by phone as well.

Keeneland’s November Sale presents a prime opportunity for Australian breeders.

“You look through the stakes results in Australia, and American mares have produced a lot of stakes winners,” said Emirates Park General Manager Bryan Carlson.

“We have a great broodmare band in Australia, and to add to that we thought we’d try to get a couple of stakes-winning mares.”

Aussie G1 winner Con Te Partiro - US mares are a proven asset for Australian breeders.

“[American mares are] a great outcross,” said Arrowfield Bloodstock Manager John Freyer. “We’ve got a lot of Danehill blood. They complement our stallions because they’re built for speed and that’s what we like in our country. We like horses bred for precocity and speed. They produce the type of individuals that our market wants as well. They want horses with good bone, muscle, substance.”

The Thoroughbred world looks to Keeneland every November in search of the next generations of racing greatness.

The full Keeneland November Sale catalogue is now available and can be seen here. The sale begins on Wednesday, November 10, and continues through Friday, November 19.
