Country crackers for Saturday

Breednet - Friday September 22

The major focus on any Saturday is metropolitan racing but there's plenty of us out there that don't mind a dabble at the support meetings across the country so here's our best bets.

On Saturday, we’ve come up with a tip at the Kembla, Tatura and Gold Coast meetings.

KEMBLA

SNEAKY FELLA (Race 4 No. 9) Choisir gelding on debut and he’s looked pretty good at the trials. Got well back in his first trial at Gosford before closing off well then did something similar when finishing close up, could have won it easily, again at Gosford. The stable then elected to travel him to Rosehill for his last trial. He settled back towards the tail and when given a tickle up at the top of the straight he sprinted quickly, forcing Tim Clark to grab up and allow him to cruise to the line behind the placegetters. On Saturday, he’s drawn well and gets the services of Grant Buckley, he’ll give us a good sight and you can get each-way odds.

TATURA

AZYAAN (Race 4 No. 11) She probably should have broken through first-up when not beaten far off a tough run and the form out of her last run reads outstanding for a maiden. She stepped up to 1400m at Wangaratta, hit the front in the straight and only the highly promising Sully got past her. He’s won impressively since and looks a live chance in the Group III Gloaming at Rosehill on Saturday. Straight into the box seat and way down on 52kg with the claim, she’ll take some catching down the short 220m home straight.

GOLD COAST

SILVERWIN (Race 3 No. 4) If this horse is ever going to win a race it has to be Saturday. Chris Waller-trained gelding that on debut produced a respectable performance when beaten 2-1/4 lengths in a Sydney midweek metro maiden. After that run he spent almost a year on the sidelines before resuming at Wyong on cup day when third beaten 4-1/2 lengths by Showtime which went to Melbourne and last Saturday was beaten 2-1/2 lengths by Royal Symphony. Silverwin then overraced when dropping out last time in a Doomben maiden. Horses can throw in a bad one, which Silverwin did last start, but if he performs anything like he did in his first two starts here, he should be winning.
