The top bets from The Armchair Punter for Saturday UPDATED

Stephen Brassel - Saturday September 23

I’m betting with a fair bit of confidence at Rosehill while happy to have a couple of small plays at Caulfield in what shapes as an intriguing days racing at both venues.

I'm keen to play at Rosehill on Saturday and reckon we'll be flying high at the end of the day.

PARET (Rosehill Race 1 No 5)
Extremely impressive winning on debut at Canterbury when out the back and overcame a chequered passage in the straight before being eased down over the concluding stages when he had the race in his keeping. Jockey swap here with Hugh Bowman taking the mount from Glyn Schofield while Schofield goes onto stablemate Aonair, which was ridden by Bowman to win at Warwick Farm last time. Looks a classy horse with a big future and betting with confidence to beat the short-priced favourite.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $3.80 @ Bet365

LYCURGUS (Caulfield Race 3 No 12)
Resumed from a spell and caught the eye running on strongly when fifth in an unsuitable 1509m at Moonee Valley behind Ebediyin. Won over 2400m here when last in work taking out the $150,000 Galilee Series Final when he charged home. Drawn well and with a big field here should ensure there’s enough tempo to get clear running when it counts. He’ll be hard to hold out.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS: $14 @ Sportsbet ($17 Power Play)

EURO ANGEL (Rosehill Race 5 No.4)
High class mare who is fitter for two starts back from a spell and both runs have been good. First up she was unlucky when finishing powerfully in restricted room for second Sweet Redemption in the 1300m Toy Show Quality then again hit the line strongly for third behind Deploy and Egg Tart in the 1300m Theo Marks. Yes she was beaten nearly five lengths but Deploy, won by four and has been well backed to win The Everest after successive track records while Egg Tart will be prominent in Group I races during the spring. Euro Angel has won out to 1600m and certainly doesn’t look badly placed with 2.5kg over the limit. She’s great value!
BET: WIN
ODDS: $7.50 @ Sportsbet ($8.50 Power Play)

KEEN ARRAY (Caulfield R6 No 1)
Smart sprinter on his day and looks a bet to nothing each-way in this field, if that’s the way you want to play it, but I’m happy to push all-in and go the win. Resumed from a spell when wide and out the back at Moonee Valley before working home nicely to be less than two lengths from Brave Smash. Meets that horse 2.5kg better here, drawn the inside gate and most importantly is three-from-three over the Caulfield 1200m.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $9 @ Sportsbet ($11 Power Play)

SULLY (Rosehill Race 6 No 5)
Had four starts and you’d think he’d have learned something along the way but this son of Reliable Man is still very raw and hasn’t put it all together however he has a stack of talent. Finished a distant third to Royal Symphony at Flemington then had a couple of months off before resuming and running on strongly to win his maiden at Wangaratta. Wanted to hang in on that occasion but nothing compared to his next run when turning in an outstanding performance to win at Bendigo over 1600m. Goes up to 1800m which will suit and gets Corey Brown on here so banking on going right-handed racing works to his advantage.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $8.50 @ Ladbrokes ($11 Odds Boost)
