The top bets from Clinton Payne for Wednesday

Clinton Payne - Wednesday September 20

I’ve come up with a couple of hot performers from the trials at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and two horses I think can make drastic improvement off their last runs.

I've found a couple this week that have been doing this at the trials.

RIDICULE (Warwick Farm Race 2 No 8)
I reckon this So You Think debutante has got plenty of ability. In her first trial at Warwick Farm she showed plenty of natural speed when never off the bridle, edged out late by Kembla debut winner Sacher Torte. That filly gunned down Darhad on debut, with a space back to third. In Darhad’s previous campaign he had form around the likes of Champagne Cuddles, Ace High and One More Honey so I'm thinking it was a hot maiden. Ridicule then trialled again at Wyong and again she showed natural speed and looked strong when drawing clear in the straight with the jockey just going along for the ride. This appears a decent race but from barrier 2 Ridicule should get a lovely run up near the speed and I expect to see something pretty smart when the brakes are released.

EERISED (Warwick Farm Race 4 No 6)
I went off a run early last week but I’m sticking because I think he’ll be better suited at Warwick Farm and the step-up to 2200m should also be to his liking. Last prep he was doing plenty wrong but showed what he was capable of when fourth behind Mongolian Wolf in the Frank Packer Plate. This prep he worked home gamely first-up in a slowly run race then found the dead ends in a 1600m race at Warwick Farm. He was back and wide last week at Canterbury and struggled to run on but this is an easier race, the small field is a plus and he has the ability to bounce back.

DISSOLUTE (Warwick Farm Race 6 No 1)
When you look at the formguide his first-up record reads 4-0-1-0 which is hardly inspiring but I saw enough at the trials to overlook that that. The stable has only trialled him once but he couldn’t have been any more impressive when towing Tye Angland around with his ears pricked and running time at the Warwick Farm set on September 8 - to my eyes they don’t trial any better. On Wednesday, he’s drawn to get the right run drawing barrier 3 and the stable has called upon the services of Hugh Bowman despite the horse being trialled by Tye Angland who is riderless in the race and does plenty of riding for the stable. This is the good thing of the day.

RED KNOT (Warwick Farm Race 8 No 3)
This is the speculator on Wednesday but I think there’s enough factors to have a little something each-way on him at big odds. He’s a big gross gelding and I think has been in need of his two runs this prep over shorter trips where he hasn’t been able to dominate. I like the fact he’s had betting support in both of the runs and I thought he stuck on ok in a solidly run affair last time. Now out to 1400m with those couple of runs under his belt, I’m expecting him to be ridden with more aggression here and that’s when he’s been most effective when carving out strong sectionals from the front. He gets some weight relief this time too with the 3kg claim. He’s capable of running a cheeky race here.
