Royally bred Gimmie Par Claims the Quezette Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday August 14

Last season’s Talindert Stakes form stood up at Caulfield on Saturday with the winner Ingratiating claiming the Vain Stakes while runner-up Gimmie Par made her three-year-old bow with a valuable Group III triumph in the Beck Probuild Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

The Peter Moody-trained half-sister to Ole Kirk made just two starts last season. Following her debut second in the Talindert she broke her maiden over 1100m at Caulfield.

With Jamie Kah in the saddle, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt was caught wide the trip. But she was brave in the straight holding the Street Boss (USA) filly Heresy by a half-length with the Nicconi filly Scorched Earth the same distance back in third.

Fourth placed Najmaty (I Am Invincible) and fifth placed Libiamo (Written Tycoon) were doing their best work in the finish and should add to their records.

Peter Moody said he was unconcerned the lightly races filly was caught three deep.

“I was happy to see a bit of fresh air in front of her. There is only one turn so unless there is a headwind you don’t worry about that,” Moody said.

“She came into it a little bit soft. We didn’t trial her in the lead up so she is open to nice improvement.

“Thanks to Rick Jamieson and the team up there at Gilgai. She is a lovely filly and now a very valuable little girl with a Group win besides her name.

“I haven’t set anything beyond today. She is not a big girl so I think she will not be in for a busy spring.

“She doesn’t strike me as a Guineas filly, I think the mile might test her at this point in time.

“There are no lofty targets at this point. We will wait for her to mature a it more.”

A homebred for Rick Jamieson's Gilgai Farm, Gimmie Par is the second foal and second winner out of the unraced Bel Esprit mare Naturale.

A full-sister to the undefeated champion Black Caviar, and a half-sister to All Too Hard, Naturale hit the ground running in her broodmare career.

Her first foal was the Group 1 MRC Caulfield Guineas and Group 1 ATC Golden Rose Stakes hero Ole Kirk (Written Tycoon) who commences his stallion career at Vinery Stud in the spring at a fee of $55,000.

After missing in 2018 and 2019, Naturale delivered a sister to Ole Kirk last week.
