Unencumbered's Beau Rossa Blows Them Away in Lightning Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday July 31

Eleven weeks off the scene on a bottomless track was not enough to stop the powerhouse sprinter Beau Rossa in Saturday’s Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.

Giving the win needed for Todd Pannell to defend his riders title, the son of Unencumbered raced on the speed before drawing clear to defeat last years winner Parlophone (I Am Invincible) by three and a quarter lengths with Esta La Roca (El Roca) three-quarter-length back in third.

The Group II Tobin Bronze Stakes winner at Morphettville on May 1, Beau Rossa, advances his record to five wins a second and a third from 10 starts with earnings of $368,675.

“He was fantastic. He really relished the speed on. He could travel in his comfort zone,” winning trainer Will Clarken said.

“His action looked beautiful, and I was very confident as he was clearly getting through it.

“He has a huge engine and has amazing data.

“He is different than most of mine that have come on the scene in that we bought him as a yearling. He came through our system, we have managed him well, and fortune favours the brave. I was toey, and I was walking the box for a minute as I didn’t know whether I should run him or not.

“Hopefully, he can help Todd win the championship, so a great day for everyone.”

Consigned by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds to the 2019 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Beau Rossa was an $80,000 purchase for Will Clarken/David Jolly.

The son of Three Bridges short-lived stallion Unencumbered Beau Rossa is the best of two winners from as many to race out of the Choisir mare My Choisir.

A winner at Morphettville from 11 starts, My Choisir is a daughter of the talented racemare Prancelot, whose four wins were highlighted by the Listed SAJC Balcrest Stakes and Listed Walter Brown Stakes.

My Choisir has an unraced 2yo filly by Street Boss (USA) named Swift Sister, a weanling filly by Puissance De Lune (IRE), and revisited the Swettenham Stud stallion last spring.
