Oaklands Plate on the Radar for Brazen Beau's Taunting

Mark Smith - Saturday July 10

It was a good ten minutes for Brazen Beau with his three-year-old daughter Belsielle impressing over 1100m at Caulfield before the two-year-old colt Taunting led them a merry dance over 1100m at Gawler.

It was the second consecutive win for Taunting, a beaten favourite on debut at Morphettville Parks on June 12.

With Jessica Eaton in the saddle, Taunting defeated Keep Reading (Headwater) by two and three-quarter lengths with a further four lengths back to Strike Eagle (More Than Ready) in third.

Before the start, there was a minor sensation when Murrami Express was scratched after arriving in steel plates rather than his aluminium racing plates. Taunting was still on his way back to the winners stall when his trainer Michael Hickmott declared the son of Brazen Beau the best he has put a bridle on.

“He’s a very good horse and knows nothing yet,” Hickmott enthused.

“He will be in the (Listed) Oaklands Plate next Saturday. If (part owner) Darren Thomas lets me run him, that’s where he will be going.”

Taunting was a $230,000 purchase by Michael Hickmott Bloodstock from the Flinders Park Stud draft at the 2020 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

The striking Taunting was a $230,000 purchase at the Inglis Premier

Bred by Bridsan Bloodstock, the son of Brazen Beau is the second winner from as many to race out of the 3-time winning Northern Meteor mare Probationary who was purchased by Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA) for $18,000 out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

Probationary’s dam Red Beret (Red Ransom) is a three-quarter sister to the dam of the dual Listed winner Cape Kidnappers (Commands) and a half-sister to the crack American performer Marlin (Sword Dance), a 4-time Grade 1 winner.

Thoroughbred Union purchased a Thronum colt out of Probationary for $45,000 from the Flinders Park Stud draft at the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

After foaling a Dundeel filly last spring, Probationary was covered by Russian Revolution.
