Trained by Clayton Douglas for Jamie Kah’s mother Karen, Mimosas surged clear to score an easy length and a half win over 1000m with Luke Nolen on board.

"He’s shown us nice ability at home but he’s a lazy sort of horse and that’s why the blinkers went on today. It’s good to see him do what he did,” said Douglas.

"I think he had his first jumpout nearly eight months ago. I actually wanted to run him in one of the first two-year-old races but decided to give him some time.

"He’s a very raw sort of horse but he’s come back well this prep.”

A $20,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Grenville Stud draft for Crown Park, Mimosas was selected by Clayton’s uncle Rod Douglas and collected nearly $90,000 for his debut win.

Mimosas is the first winner for winning Commands mare Laurenstar, a daughter of Group III placed Loyal Lauren.

Squamosa stands at Widden Stud Victoria at a fee of $4,400.
