One To Watch - Newcastle

Mark Smith - Sunday May 9

There looks to be better things ahead for the two-year-old Xtravagant gelding Sinba, judging by his dominant win on debut over 1400m at Newcastle on Saturday.

The only 2yo in the field, Sinba carried the support of the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou stable, and he didn’t disappoint.

With Keagan Latham in the saddle, Sinba came with a barnstorming finish from second last on the turn to defeat the Street Boss (USA) gelding Kanmoreu, one of three starters from the stable of Chris Waller, by two lengths.

Purchased by Ric Wylie Bloodstock / Mark Richards for $90,000 out of the Newhaven Park Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Sinba is the first foal of the Bernardini (USA) mare Kamili.

Though she failed to win in nine starts, Kamili was not without ability, placing at Sandown and Cranbourne.

Her owner/breeder Trevor Delroy is never shy at having a throw at the stumps. Kamili started in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes, Group II Moonee Valley Classic and Group III Ethereal Stakes without landing a blow in any of them.

Kamili is out of the dual Listed Jungle Dawn Classic and Listed Starstruck Stakes winner Premardal.

A daughter of Shamardal (USA), Premardal is out of a three-quarter-sister to the great Arazi and a half-sister to Champion Miler Noverre.

Kamili has a yearling filly and weanling colt by mart Missile. She was covered by Nicconi last spring.

Sinba is the second winner for Newhaven Park Stud’s NZ 2000 Guineas hero Xtravagant who stands at a value fee of $11,000 in 2021.
