Group One Contender for High Chaparral

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 16
Sadly no longer with us, High Chaparral (IRE) is well known for his classic horses and stayers, but he can get a speedier steed and one of those is Theanswermyfriend, who won the Listed VRC Sofitel Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Theanswermyfriend - Grant CourtneySecond at his first two runs back from a spell, the Robert Smerdon trained gelding was fit and ready to run, charging forward from the outside gate in the field of 14 to take up the lead.

He raced a little keenly for Craig Williams, but pulled out plenty in the run to the line to cruise home and win the 1400 metre contest by a commanding length and three-quarters over another High Chaparral son in Mr Sneaky.

"He was tough and solid and always performs well at this track and distance," said Craig Williams.

"Bon Aurum won this race last year on the way to the Rupert Clarke (Group I), so that might be a good guide."

Another stakes-winner sporting the Coolmore CHis trainer Robert Smerdon confirmed the Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) was on the radar for Theanswermyfriend, who has the impressive record of four wins and six seconds from 13 starts with prizemoney in excess of $285,000.

A $70,000 NZB Premier purchase for Aquanita Racing from the Curraghmore Stud draft, Theanswermyfriend was foaled and raised at Coolmore and is the best of three winners from Blowin in the Wind (IRE), an unraced three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Latin Love.

Blowin in the Wind was covered last spring by High Chaparral's champion son So You Think.

He is the 101st stakes-winner for High Chaparral, who died in 2014.
