Star Sprinting Mare Confirmed for National Sale

Media Release - Tuesday March 30

One of Australia's best sprinters will go under the hammer at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast in late May.

Tofane, a Group One winning daughter of Ocean Park, will be offered for sale through what will be a star studded Newgate Consignment draft.

Tofane

A winner of last year's All Aged Stakes at Randwick for trainer Michael Moroney, Tofane has spent her short racetrack career racing against horses of the highest calibre. She is currently in training and will race through to the sale and will be offered as a racing and breeding prospect.

Tofane announced herself as one of the finest of her generation when she comprehensively scored back to back group wins in Melbourne, winning the Northwood Plume Stakes at Caulfield and Begonia Belle Stakes at Flemington.

Her progression peaked further when she flew home to deny star entire Pierata a fairytale farewell in the All Aged Stakes at Randwick where the likes of Bivouac, Santa Ana Lane, Fierce Impact, Dreamforce and Super Seth were behind.

"With Tofane the most exciting part is what is to come for her on the racetrack and how she might add to her exceptional profile," part owner Rupert Legh said. "I feel her race record only tells half story of how good a race mare she is."

"She is set to resume in Sydney on April 17 and will target four Group One races before and after the Magic Millions sale."

"On the back of this coming preparation I think everyone will have a new level of appreciation for her class, that is backed up by huge depth to her pedigree," Legh added.

A winner of over $1.3 million from just 18 lifetime starts, Tofane is from a three quarter sister to Funstar and half sister to Youngstar.

"We are so proud to have been given the opportunity to consign Tofane," Newgate's Managing Director Henry Field said.

"An outstanding Group One winner of the All Aged Stakes, she has a genetic makeup that is nothing short of mouth watering."

"She is a rare jewel, who would be at the top end of any broodmare bands, no matter how elite, anywhere in the world," Field added.

Tofane is in a long list of highlight lots confirmed for the National Broodmare Sale with a stunning catalogue set to be unveiled soon.

The sale also includes a spectacular line up of fillies and mares who are part of the Shadwell Stud Australasia Unreserved Dispersal Sale.

The 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Sale will take place from May 20 to June 3. Entries for the auction are closing now and can be submitted online here.

"We will be releasing a truly outstanding catalogue soon," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "Entries close today - so if you'd like to join the catalogue you should contact our bloodstock team as a matter of priority."
