Arcaded a Class Above in Magic Night

Mark Smith - Saturday March 13

Godolphin's lovely Street Boss (USA) filly Arcaded bounced back from a sub-par performance in the Blue Diamond Stakes to dominate in the Group III Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens.

With James McDonald in the saddle, the James Cummings-trained filly sat outside the leader Robodira in the run. Arcaded quickly got the better of the daughter of Husson (CHI) to win by one and a quarter lengths with the same distance back to the Headwater filly Jamaea in third.

Arcaded won her first two starts, including the Group II Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield. She defeated Scorched Earth that day, and that daughter of Nicconi stamped the form by winning the Listed St Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley just minutes before Arcaded's Magic night triumph.

Arcaded likely had enough money in the bank to gain her place in the Golden Slipper but earned a golden ticket here.

James Cummings said Arcaded was no certainty to line-up next Saturday.

"I don't know about that, I think we give ourselves the opportunity to weigh up the rating and the strength of the race," Cummings said.

Realistically, if Arcaded was a humble owner's one horse in the stable, most likely the horse would be running."

"But I think we get the opportunity to see another good galloper (Ingratiating) in the upcoming race. That will help us weigh up the second colt for the race, and we might go from there.

"It was a good performance from Arcaded. She's a Melbourne filly, essentially having her first run under race conditions and her first go around Rosehill. She sat outside the leader there and went nice and straight and true.

"She's got professionalism written all over her. There's just not a lot of her. On account of that four weeks into the Percy Sykes would seem like a pretty attractive option given the position of where we are at, at the moment.

"I don't think we should rule anything out, and I think we give ourselves the opportunity to reflect on the rating."

The Godolphin homebred is the first foal of the stakes-placed Lonhro mare Gloriette, and there is a lot of Lonhro about Arcaded.

Placed in the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate and Listed MVRC Valley Pearl, Gloriette is a half-sister to stakes-placed Grunderzeit (Street Cry).

John Ferguson purchased her dam Viennese for $1,400,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

The daughter of Redoute's Choice was the top-priced filly of the sale.

A sister to the breed-shaper Snitzel and a half-sister to Hinchinbrook, Viennese won $162,725 of her purchase price back on the track. More importantly, two of her three wins came in stakes races.

Viennese is still going strong for Godolphin. She has a yearling colt and a colt foal by Exosphere and was covered by Frosted (USA) last year.

After making an excellent start to her broodmare career with Arcaded, Gloriette has a colt foal by Epaulette and was bred back to the son of Commands again last spring.
