Choisir's Every Rose Claims the Light Fingers Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 13

It has been a long time between drinks for the three-year-old Choisir filly Every Rose.

The flashy chestnut won the first two-year-old stakes race of the season, the Listed Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick back in October 2019. It has been slim pickings in six starts since although she rarely runs a bad race.

Saturday’s Group II Light Fingers Stakes might be a turning point for the Darby Racing colour-bearer.

Given a positive ride by Josh Parr, the Mark Newnham-trained filly led at every call to defeat Never Talk (No Nay Never) by a half-neck with Away Game (Snitzel) a short-neck back in third.

"Her best runs have been when she is allowed to gallop," Newnham said.

"She won the Gimcrack in similar fashion then just got beaten by King's Legacy in Brisbane doing that.

"It was heart in the mouth stuff. I was very confident at the corner but it was just a matter of whether her condition would hold out."

Bred by Wallings Bloodstock, Every Rose is a half-sister to two metropolitan winners being from Couredge, a half-sister by Show a Heart to Group II winner Vintedge and stakes-winner Youths Edge.

Every Rose a $160,000 Magic Millions Yearling

Purchased by Wallings Bloodstock / Tyreel Stud for a $190,000 at the 2016 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, Couredge has a 2yo Hinchinbrook filly named Brooke’s Edge, purchased by Darby Bloodstock Pty Ltd / Will Johnson Bloodstock for $250,000 at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Couredge has a yearling filly by Hellbent, which was knocked down to Greg Hickman Racing at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

After foaling a colt by Exceed And Excel last spring, Couredge was bred back to Darley Stud’s flagship stallion.
