The Galaxy on the Radar for Shooting To Win's Tailleur

Mark Smith - Saturday February 13

There are few more likeable horses in training than the four-year-old Shooting To Win mare Tailleur who made all the running in Saturday’s Group III Robrick Lodge Triscay Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for trainer James Cummings, Tailleur held the challenge of Tricky Gal (Magic Albert) by a long-neck with Icebath (Sacred Falls) one and a quarter lengths back in third.

The Godolphin homebred advances her record to six wins and two seconds from six starts with earnings of $417,615.

It was Tailleur’s first start in a stakes race and Cummings has big plans for her.

”We have been really patient waiting for her first crack at a black-type race,” Cummings said.

“It paid of today but it just goes to show how hard they are to win because everything fell into place for her with the scratchings and a desirable wet track for her.

“She was nice and fit and fresh coming in to this. We can plot a path now with a little bit less pressure.

“She could be kept fresh for a really good race like the Galaxy or we could plot a path through the mare races. There is three weeks to a nice Group III Quality here and there is also the Birthday Card on Golden Slipper day. But there is something to be said for her down in the weights in a Galaxy and it would be interesting if we got a wet track that day.

A half-sister to the Group III ATC James HB Carr Stakes and Group III Birthday Card Stakes, Tailleur is one of four winners from six to race out of the talented Commands mare Clothing.

The winner of six races, Clothing was purchased for $90,000 by Craig Rounsefell’s Boomer Bloodstock, on behalf of Plaintree Farm, at last year’s National Broodmare Sale.

She was carrying a full-brother to Tailleur and was covered last spring by Spirit Of Boom.

Tailleur becomes the fourth stakes-winner for Darley Stud’s Caulfield Guineas hero Shooting To Win.
